An MP inspired a group of children with stories from her life in politics.

Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, paid a visit to St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, in Bradley Road, Wood Green, on Friday 7.

The Liberal Democrat MP took a tour of the school before meeting the school council to talk about her role in politics.

The school council is made up of one boy and one girl from each class, who are elected by their fellow pupils, and who meet regularly to discuss ways to improve their school life.

Ms Featherstone shared her experiences of life as an MP and answered questions from pupils about her proudest achievements.

Pupils told Ms Featherstone how they have been making the school better by adding a wooden shelter in the playground and creating a sensory garden, which is due to be completed at Easter.

The Liberal Democrat MP said: “I’m delighted to be here today. I love working with children and they have been really intelligent, well behaved and interested.

“I want to show the children that politics is exciting and that it’s important to have opinions, to fight for what you believe in and to have courage in yourself.”

Deputy headteacher Richard Curry said: “It’s great to have Lynne here today.

“The children on the council are doing the same job within the school that MPs do in the Houses of Parliament, so it’s good for the children to see the bigger picture.

“We are in the process of trying to arrange a trip to the Houses of Parliament, to show them how democracy works on a larger scale.”

Council secretary Kittie Obodoechina, ten, said: “It was inspiring to hear about Lynne’s experiences.

"She explained everything in a way we could understand and it was really interesting.”

Chairman Julian Osei-Kufour, ten, said: “It was a privilege to take Lynne on a tour of our school.”
