LONDON and South East England is at risk of flooding as a fresh storm surges from the west tonight, forecasters have warned.

Torrential rain and high winds are expected to sweep into parts of the country that have so far escaped the worst of the harsh conditions seen in other parts of the UK.

The Met Office earlier today issued amber weather warnings in place from 8pm tonight, continuing until tomorrow.

It stated: “The public should be prepared for disruption due to flooding.

“A further Atlantic frontal system will bring a band of rain quickly eastwards during Friday night and early Saturday, with the heaviest rain again likely to be across parts of southern England”.

The office also urged the public to be wary of transport being affected, adding power lines and trees could well be hit over the weekend.
