Bromley ski centre ready for Winter Olympics influx
WATCHING the Winter Olympics or The Jump is bound to get plenty of people fired up to hurl down a mountain.
But facilities in Kent and London are few and far between – with dry slopes in Bromley and Chatham the nearest, and they’re ready for those inspired by Sochi.
The 120 metre slope at Bromley Ski and Snowboard Centre is tucked away by LA Fitness in Foots Cray but is just metres from the A20, making it convenient to get to.
Manager Anita Dixon, who has worked at the centre for 16 years, said it was hard to gauge the affect the Olympics would have on visitors but hoped it would make the sport more popular.
She said:”It would be good.
“It’s a good social thing and a good fitness thing. It is just very sociable, it’s outside, out and about and it gets kids moving rather than sitting at their Playstations.
“You can progress at your own rate so you can just plod along and do as much or as little as you want. Anyone can do it, from four to 84.”
A 90 minute adult taster session at Bromley Ski and Snowboard Centre costs £22 and a four hour beginner course is £80. For seven to 15-year-olds a four hour course costs £45.

GET YOUR SKATES ON – Inspired, but skiing’s not your thing?
CURLING grips the nation every time the Winter Olympics is on. England’s only dedicated curling rink is a short drive away at Fenton’s near Tunbridge Wells. Go to fentonsrink.co.uk
ICE skating is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening, but the area’s short on rinks too. The nearest are Silver Blades in Gillingham (silver-blades.co.uk) or Streatham Ice Rink (better.org.uk/leisure/streaham-ice).
