A band from Weybridge enjoyed chart topping success this month, with their fourth album knocking a Brit awards winner from the top spot.

You Me at Six, four of whose members studied at Brooklands College, topped the album chart on Sunday, February 2, pushing Ellie Goulding down the list.

Band members Max Helyer, Chris Miller and Matt Barnes all studied for a BTec national diploma in rock and pop music at the college, where they also met drummer Dan Flint.

Dr David Penri-Evans, head of music at Brooklands College, said: “They were excellent students when they were on our rock music course and we are thrilled and proud that they are doing so well.

“They have worked hard and deserve all the success they get.

“When the band went on their first national tour supporting Paramore, some of them were still at the college and had to take homework with them to do on the tour bus.”

Since leaving the college, the band has toured the USA, Australia and Europe along with winning best British band at the Kerrang! awards in 2011.
