Schools in Enfield have scored above the national average in GCSE and primary school results.

Figures released by the Department of Education showed that the percentage of Enfield pupils achieving five A* - C grades at GCSE including English and maths was 58 per cent, higher than the nation percentage of 53 per cent.

The most successful schools were Latymer School in Haselbury Road, Edmonton, and Palmers Green High School in Hoppers Road, where all pupils achieved five A*to C grades at GCSE including English and maths.

In addition, 76 per cent of primary school pupils in Enfield achieved a level four or above in reading, writing and maths, two per cent higher than 2012 and one per cent higher than the national average.

The best results came from St James’ Church of England Primary School in Frederick Crescent, Enfield Highway, where 100 per cent of pupils achieved level four or above in reading, writing and maths.

Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Ayfer Orhan, said: “These figures are good news for parents, good news for pupils and good news for schools, and are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers and children, and demonstrate once again the high quality education that schools in Enfield offer their pupils.

“We are absolutely committed to making sure that parents can get their children into a good and successful school near to where they live, which is why we are continuing with our multi-million pound primary expansion programme to provide thousands of new school places in the areas they are most needed."
