Sainsbury's will become the third major supermarket along a one-mile stretch of Finchley Central when it opens a new store later this month.

The firm is opening one of its ‘Local’ stores in Regents Park Road, next to The Dignity pub, on Monday, February 24.

The new store adds to a growing list of supermarket chains within a mile-long stretch of the area, joining a Tesco superstore just up the road in Ballards Lane and a more recently opened Morrisons Local, also in Ballards Lane.

dont forget that Sainsburys used to have a supermarket on Ballards Lane, more or less opposite the current Tesco supermarket.

for the time, it was considered 'large' but would now be classed as a 'Local'

Tesco also used to have a really tiny shop near Long Lane.

Good to see the new investment.

I think the Finchley Central area should be turned into the main commercial centre of Barnet, with the railway from the west reopened through Mill Hill East, and maybe trams up Ballards Lane to the ArtsDepot and then Friern Barnet.

The management of Tesco has to pull its socks up if it doesn't want to lose trade to competition for example £4 for two lumps of chicken, that's taking it big time!
