A teenager has suffered head injuries after being hit by a car near a college in Ewell.

An air ambulance was called to the traffic accident in Reigate Road near Nescot College in Ewell just before 12.40pm.

A South East Surrey Air Ambulance Spokesman said: "It was reported to us that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian on Reigate Road.

"The teenage patient with injuries, including a head injury, was treated before being taken by road to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, as a priority."

The crash has shocked residents living in the busy road where accidents have happened in the past.

The area where the air ambulance reportedly landed

Linda Seymour, who lives in Reigate Road, said: "We have just had a very serious accident.

"A teenager has been hit by a car. We understand it was a young lad on his mobile and it seems that he walked into the path of a car.

"I’m shocked and horrified. But it’s a dangerous road and there is no getting away from it."

She said the air ambulance landed on a field used by to teach the care of farm animals which the college wants to redevelop to pay for the modernisation of its buildings.

Nescot, in partnership with the Goodman Group, has submitted planning applications to develop 91 homes and a retirement village on the site.

Reigate Road was closed after the crash but has since reopened.
