LEWISHAM'S new leisure centre and the redesigned Woolwich town centre have been crowned two of London's best developments.
The Glass Mill at Loampit Vale, with its brightly-coloured outside artwork titled Razzle Dazzle, was named best built project at the London Planning Awards for its impact on the area, benefits to the community, design and ingenuity.
And Woolwich, with its enormous Tesco, new homes and civic offices, was praised for its "subtle yet transformative changes" to the area, walking away with the best town centre project award.
The awards, jointly run by the Mayor of London, promotional body London First, the Royal Town Planning Institute and London Councils, were presented earlier this month at City Hall
Chief executive of London First Baroness Jo Valentine said: "Our winners demonstrate what is possible when we work together to create great buildings, places and neighbourhoods."
The Olympic Village's transformation into East Village was chosen by Boris Johnson to win the top planning excellence prize.
