Firefighters rescued a dog from a pond in Surbiton.
The golden retriever, named Jess, got stuck in reeds near King Charles Road yesterday afternoon.
Firefighter Andrew Cuthbert, from Kingston fire station, said: “It was an elderly dog that got into waist-deep water. It couldn’t swim back because of the rushes.
“We just waded in, picked up the dog, and came back.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Make sure you take extra care of your dogs near ponds and lakes and if they do go into the water don’t go in after them as it can put both of your lives at risk.”
