PET owners in south east London are being invited to have their animals micro chipped for free this weekend.
The RSPCA’s south London branch said the chips, which are smaller than a grain of rice, store a number of details and can help if a dog, cat, rabbit or other companion goes missing.
The organisation will also be conducting free health checks as well as offers on treatments on the day, which takes place on Sunday in Beckenham.
David Mawson, branch secretary at RSPCA South London, said it would be good for pet owners to take advantage of the scheme.
He said: “We hope that as many pet owners as possible will come along to our event. Microchipping your pet provides the ultimate assurance that should your pet go missing it can be easily traced.”
He added the charity collects animals every day and the first thing it does is scan them to see if they are chipped – and dealing with the situation is a lot easier when they are.
The procedure is said to be quick and painless. Anyone interested is invited to the RSPCA clinic at 46 Sydenham Road, Beckenham, between 12noon and 3.30pm on Sunday February 9.
