A dedicated volunteer has been recognised for her tireless work running a girl guides unit.

Sue Till won a Halifax Giving Extra Award this week for her time helping run the 2nd Headstone Guides.

The group has been running in Harrow for the more than 30 years and offers girls a range of activities at its weekly meetings in the St Albans Church Hall, North Harrow.

Ms Till said: “I have worked with girl guides in my local area for over 30 years and enjoyed every minute.

“Watching the girls mature and grow into responsible young women, many of whom have gone on to achieving wonderful things both with their families or in their career, means the world to me because I know I have played a small part in their development.

“I am glad that I have won this award but I could not have done this on my own. The support of my leaders and my family is second to none and I thank all of them for the part they play.”

The leader was nominated by Shelley Cole who said: “I was one of Sue’s guides more than 20 years ago and stayed on to help her.

“She has made a difference to so many young girls’ lives by giving them the opportunity to do activities they would not get the chance to do otherwise.”

The awards are run by Halifax bank and recognise the work of people across the country who have given their time to help their community.
