Healthwatch Haringey appeals for people to share healthcare experiences
A new health watchdog has urged people from across the borough to share their experiences of healthcare.
Dr Katherine Rake made the appeal at the launch of Healthwatch Haringey at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham on Monday.
The new watchdog Healthwatch England and its local branches were created following the passing of the Health and Social Care Bill.
The Haringey branch identified challenges including improving mental health services, the GP appointment system and access to servicesm and is recruiting volunteer board members
Dr Rake said: “The team have been doing a fantastic job in Haringey, however they cannot do it alone.
“They need local residents, both young and old, to come and share their experiences so that the energy and enthusiasm of Healthwatch and its volunteers can be used effectively to meet the challenges ahead in health and social care.”
The launch was hosted by radio presenter and comedian Geoff Schumann and more than 90 people were in attendance.
These included members of the Haringey Clinical Commissioning Group and local councillors.
Sharon Grant, the wife of the late Tottenham MP Bernie Grant, is currently the group's interim chairman.
Applications for the vacancies close on February 17.
