The M1 has reopened after a man fell from a bridge above the carriageway this morning.

The man fell from the bridge between Junctions 5 and 6 but a second man who was trying to help him was hit by a car.

The motorway was shut northbound at around 11am this morning while police cleared the scene and carried out investigations.

It is still causing traffic tailbacks between Junctions 2, Hendon and Junction 4, Stanmore.

Police have confirmed the two men have died.
