Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone to meet Haringey Borough Commander Victor Olisa over Muswell Hill burglary figures
An MP has called an urgent meeting with the borough’s police commander after Muswell Hill came third in a list of burglary hotspots in the UK.
Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone will discuss beefing up policing in the area with Haringey borough commander Chief Superintendent Victor Olisa.
According to insurance claim figures submitted to the Moneysupermarket.com website, people living in the N10 postcode area are the third most likely to be victims of burglary, with 40.9 claims per thousand people.
Ms Featherstone said: “It’s very worrying to see our local area so high in this list of burglary hotspots.
“I have requested an urgent meeting with the borough Ccmmander to see what he thinks of these figures, and ask whether his crime statistics match up.
“In the meantime, our call for a replacement police base and front counter in the Muswell Hill area continues.”
Muswell Hill police station and front counter was closed last year as part of Boris Johnson’s changes to policing in the capital.
The Liberal Democrat MP has previously called for it to be replaced.
Fortis Green Liberal Democrat councillor Martin Newton said the figures came as a shock and wants Chief Supt Olisa to take action.
He added: “We are still waiting for a proper police contact point in the Muswell Hill area following the closure of Muswell Hill police station.
“It’s vital that the public have easy access to our hard working and vigilant Safer Neighbourhood Teams, if they need to report a crime or raise concerns.”
