A POLICE car was hit by a lorry on a dual carriageway in Erith yesterday afternoon, closing one side of the road for several hours.

The southbound side of Bronze Age Way was shut following the collision at around 2.38pm.

The unmarked Ford Mondeo the two officers were travelling in suffered a puncture and was pulling over when it was clipped from behind by a Volvo articulated lorry.

The Bexley officers, aged 28 and 39, were both treated in hospital for whiplash with one going to King’s College and the other to a south east London hospital.

The London Ambulance Service and officers from the Traffic unit attended the scene.

The driver of the lorry was unhurt and no arrests were made.

How dare they go to hospital and be treated after getting hit at 60 mph by a lorry. How dare they investigate the driver of the lorry who could have killed someone who was sitting in the back and take 7 hours doing it. They should be out there taking calls of the great unwashed

If someone said to you "Go on mate sit in that car and a 17 tonne lorry will hit you at 60mph while your parked and if you make it you will get 2 grand?" Would you do it? I saw the car and they are lucky to be alive

A comment from someone who clearly does not know the background to what happened and makes an uneducated assumption based on a paragraph they have read here.

I happen to know one of the officers involved and they are VERY lucky to be alive! Had anyone been in the back of the car they would have been killed.

It must be the police cars fault as it was hit from behind when it stopped after a puncture. Silly me

Calm down people, jeez you can't seem to say anything on here without someone jumping down your throat.
Technically the loory driver is at fault as he has rear ended the car in front but there are factors such as did the officers indicate to show they were pulling over and give sufficient warning?
None of us were there, none of us know but thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

Lucky it wasn't more serious but surely as a Police officer you'd find a safe place to stop or carry on to the Lower Road slip.
No hard shoulder and loads of lorries = an accident

Sometimes the slip road is too far away and if the car would have made it to one. Nothing to say you can't stop on a dual carriageway in the highway code in the event of a break down or puncture. The hazard lights were on and I'm sure they would have called for help and directed traffic if they had the chance to get out the car. But we all love to bash the police

Thank you Citygirl. What I will say is some car drivers pull out or stop dead in front of HGVs and expect them to stop on a tanner, THEY DONT !

Police car destroyed and two nearly killed should have been the headline. Check out CAR CRASH 30 TONNE LORRY on YouTube. To say it was clipped is a joke

Excellent work, I can only give you 8/10 though as you missed off a full stop and the end of you sentence. Keep this up and I'll give you a little gold star for your good work at the end of the week.

Posting at 7.54 am, did you sh1t the bed today ? That's early to be up for a Erith / Slade Green resident like you.

No I am an honest tax payer who works. Obviously you put your little pathetic comment on just before bed time after another night on the white lightening.
Anyway Slade Green or Erith is better than the Thistlebrook. You might as just stop, you haven't got two brain cells to rub together and clearly of a much lower intelligence and quite childish in your writing.
Go and do an honest days work, stop sponging then come back here with something intelligent to contribute as I am quite clearly getting to you. Which is funny

Very very good work. Keep it up. You could get two gold stars before Friday at this rate. Now get on with the shelf filling before the manager catches you on the internet.
