Abbey Wood vandal jailed after string of graffiti attacks on trains causing £97,000 damage

This Is Local London: Daniel Cusack Daniel Cusack

AN ABBEY Wood man has been jailed after carrying out a string of graffiti attacks on trains and buildings totaling around £97,000 of damage.

Daniel Cusack, 21, was a teenager when he often scrawled the tag KWOTE on 25 targets which included 19 trains, two trackside walls and a house.

Cusack, of Basildon Road, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court today (January 28) to 16 months in prison after previously admitting six charges of causing criminal damage.

He was tracked by his distinctive style of writing and found to have vandalized locations including Waterloo, Slade Green, Woolwich, St Johns, Balham and Dartford between 2009 and 2011.

Officers found several offences in Plumstead, close to Cusack’s address, and executed a search warrant at his home on July 17 2012. He was arrested the following day.

Detective Sergeant Paddy Kerr, officer in charge of London south area crime unit, said: “I welcome today’s sentence for Daniel Cusack, who has been a prolific graffiti vandal for the past five years.

“Throughout the course of his offending his only concern was to enhance his reputation by vandalising other people’s property, hitherto showing no remorse and no regard for the law.

“Vandals cause an enormous amount of disruption and inconvenience to train passengers as the damage they commit means trains have to be taken out of service so that they can be repaired and made safe. We will always seek to prosecute people committing crimes of this nature.

"Graffiti vandals put themselves in harm’s way by going on or near the rail system when trains could be coming or tracks could be electrified. It is simply not worth the risk."

Good job catching him. His rubbish has no skill or technique, it's just the scribblings of a childish mind.

Glad he's been done and name and shamed!
What would have happened if he had of been killed on the train lines!
Idiot!
Personally I think go to his home and spray unreadable crap all over his property!
3KWOTE - what does it stand for?
Can think up a few things!
Pathetic!

I agree totally about your comparison. However, I think it's totally right that this little sh!t is locked up. It's not a victimless crime and he deserves his punishment. In terms of robbing people, etc., yes they need much longer sentences.

Perhaps you should read the story before quoting an age. He is 21 now, the offences were in 2009 - 2011 which means he was 16 - 18 years old at the time of offence - not 21.

It has just taken them 4/5 + years to work out who he is and to take him to court. It's quite ridiculous to punish someone for a crime that is 5 years old with 16 months imprisonment when offenders of assault / GBH etc tend to get let off or a less sentence than this guy has, all because he wrote on a few walls? The system's useless.

OpenMindedFemale, Ok then we will deduct the cost of the clean up of this morons so called art from your benefit payments. Or if you do have a job we will take so much a week until we recoup the £97K costs of the clean up.

Owzat ?

My taxes may aswel pay for somethig other than people's benefits all the time! I'd rather be paying taxes for people who's committed real crimes than someone who wrote on a few walls. They should just be made to do community service and clean the graffiti.

That's daft. He cost you and me £97,000 in higher rail fares. Sixteen months far too short
