The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for London until midnight

This Is Local London: Up to 25mm of rain expected today Up to 25mm of rain expected today

A yellow weather warning is in place for London and the south east.

The Met Office issued the warning after many parts of the south east experienced heavy rainfall and localised flooding.

In the past 24 hours, up to 25mm rain has fallen across the region and the Met Office is warning of potential disruption.

The Environment Agency has issued a specific flood alert for the River Roding.

Areas affected include Abridge, Loughton and Buckhurst Hill.

The Agency has warned river levels are still high on the River Roding in the Abridge area.

Flooding to low lying land, roads and gardens next to the river is likely and surface water flooding is expected.

An update on the flood alert is expected this evening.

It is only fair that now that the warning has been given, those likely to be affected by this weather take steps to protect their property and themselves.

Sand bags can be purchased in advance and filled and sewed up, items moved upstairs, unless of course you are in a bungalow and generally be safe and sensible. For example do not ride through the water on a bicycle or get a rotten old canoe out like you often see on news reports. Well done Met Office for doing something correct at last.
