A schoolboy from Walton will represent England at an international fencing competition in Poland.

Murray Begley-Jones, 13, a pupil at St George’s College, Weybridge, will take part in the 37th international children’s fencing tournament challenge in Wroclaw in March.

The youngster has previously won the U14 epee at the Surrey Fencing Championships and came 15th at last year’s national fencing championships, despite competing against boys a year older than him.

Murray’s father David Jones said: “We are very proud of Murray’s achievements and delighted that his hard work and commitment has paid off.

“We’re also pleased that this gives some recognition to Murray’s coach, Trevor Langford, who has worked with him both at St George’s and at Kingston Fencing Club.”

Murray will also defend his Surrey under 14 epee title and compete in the U15 elite epee and U17 cadet tournament in London in the coming months.

Murray said: “It’s great to be representing England. I hope I perform well enough to continue competing for the national team.”
