Jools Holland will play an extra date when he opens this year’s Hampton Court Palace Festival.

In previous years the English pianist, singer, composer and TV presenter has always sold out and organisers Historic Royal Palaces and PWR Events were keen to see him perform twice this year.

Jamie Wells, director of PWR Events, says: “Jools Holland has always been a favourite at the festival, playing more than 30 times over the past 20 years and we’re thrilled that he will be with us for two nights this June.

“It’s always a great party night and wonderful way to open the festival.”

The OBE and his rhythm and blues band will be joined by Gilson Lavis and special guests including Melanie C, Marc Almond, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall.

As well as Holland’s extra date the summer festival line up will include George Benson, the Beach Boys, Jamie Cullum, Rick Astley and Jason Donovan performing in Henry VII’s open air courtyard.

The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will also present a special midsummer’s concert conducted by Renato Balsadonna featuring the voices of soprano Deborah Norman and rising star Noah Stewart.
