An underground electrical fault left Banstead residents in darkness yesterday evening.
The failure, at around 4.20pm, effected almost 400 people, with some experiencing shortages of only a few minutes, and others without power until late in the evening.
A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: "Customers in the Fir Tree Road area of Banstead would have seen an interruption to power yesterday at around 16.20 pm, following an underground fault on the electricity network.
"UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to 393 customers.
"Power was restored in stages, with the final 205 properties having their power back at around 22.20pm in the evening.
"We appreciate how difficult it is to be without and apologise for the inconvenience caused."
Residents took to Facebook group What's On In Banstead during the to find out what had happened.
Some reported an outage of only a few seconds, while others said they were spending the evening in candlelight.
