A member of Waitrose staff in Weybridge had their handheld scanning device stolen while distracted by an accomplice.
It is believed the scanner was taken by a man while the member of staff was distracted at about 6.30pm on Tuesday, January 14, at the High Street branch of the supermarket.
Surrey Police have issued a witness appeal to the theft and would like to speak to a man and woman captured on CCTV.
The man is white, with dark brown or black hair, between 28 to 38-years-old, about 6ft and of medium build and was wearing a dark waxed style jacket, dark coloured jogging bottoms and trainers.
PC Emma Vallins, investigating officer, is urging anyone who recognises the man and woman in the CCTV images or saw anyone acting suspiciously around the time of the offence to contact police.
Anyone who has information should contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45140003554 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
