The first-ever stage adaption of a Booker Prize-winning novel will premiere at the Rose Theatre next month.

Penelope Lively's Moon Tiger tells the story of historian Claudia Hampton who begins work on her masterpiece - a historical account of the entire world - as she enters her 70s.

Through her thoughts and research she recalls her life growing up between the two wars and remembers the people who have shared in her triumphs and tragedies.

We are introduced to her beloved brother Gordon and Jasper the charming, untrustworthy lover and father of her daughter, as well as Tom her one true love - both lost during the El Alamein campaign when she worked as a war correspondent.

The production signals the return of the Rose's former artistic director Stephen Unwin, who directs.

Actress Jane Asher will also return to the High Street venue, having previously appeared in Bedroom Farce, The Importance of Being Earnest and Farewell to Theatre.
