A call is going out again for Reigate and Banstead borough's young performers to step forward and become stars for a night.

For the annual showcase for the area's talented youth, Star For A Night, is back for its 14th year.

And this year's show is planned to be bigger than ever, with all those passing auditions automatically receiving free tuition to help them prepare for their big night. The show is aimed at young people aged between 11 and18, and is their chance to shine by showing off their talents - whether it's acting, singing or dancing.

Sponsored by Redhill-based Total Gas and Power Limited and supported by County Council Members Allocation grants from local councillors Natalie Bramhall, Jonathan Essex and Dorothy Ross-Tomlin, Star For A Night 2014 will be staged at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill on Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11, at 7.30pm.

Auditions will be held at the Harlequin in Warwick Quadrant this Saturday and Sunday (January 25 and 26). Rehearsals will be held for five weeks from Thursday, March 6, from 6pm to 8pm, at the Warwick School, Redhill, and then all day at the Harlequin on April 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Participants are also in with a chance of winning one-year scholarships to So You Wanna Be Theatre School and Urban Play Street Dance Classes.

Natalie Maclean, 15, from Horley, who took part in Star for a Night 2013, said: "If you like singing, dancing or acting, Star for a Night is great fun.

“There's plenty of chances to practice, perform in professional places and have a great time. I also met people who have the same interests as me. I'd recommend it to anyone."

Adam De Save, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council executive member for leisure, said: "Star for a Night is one of the year's highlights for me. “It's great to see so much flair, ability and talent in the borough.”

Coun De Save added: If you're shy don't worry - the auditions are relaxed and you can do them as part of a group or solo - it’s your choice. “Make 2014 one to remember - enter Star for a Night using the application form on our website."
