Pupils got the chance to see the workings of a fire engine and learn about fire safety.

Years 4 and 5 from Alexandra school, in Alexandra Avenue, met fire fighters from Harrow Borough during a day of action by firefighters, Harrow Borough Council, police and voluntary organisations in Rayners Lane.

The schoolchildren were given a tour of the engine and learned information about fire safety from officers.

Teacher Elena Moren said: “It is really important for children to understand fire risks and the hazards which may be around them.

“Visits like this was really helpful because it is very visual and helps the children really engage with the topic and understand the message.

Harrow Fire Brigade borough commander Richard Claydon said: “Events like this are really important for us to get the message fire safety out to the community.

“Speaking to children in schools really means they learn good habits from an early age and they then tell their parents about it so the point gets out there.”
