A Barnes student won a national award for his efforts in A-level physics.

William Martin from St Paul’s School in Barnes gained the highest marks of all candidates who sat the WJEC exam in 2013.

Gareth Pierce, WJEC’s chief executive, said: “It’s an outstanding achievement and evidence of the hard work that William and his teachers put into preparing for the examinations.”

Oliver Rokison, curriculum leader for systems and control, said: “William is one of the most exceptional students I have ever had the fortune of teaching.

“He was brilliant across the board, and amazingly humble with it.”

William is now at Cambridge University.
