A consultant at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals has been presented with a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Dr Mike Irani, consultant rheumatologist, was honoured for his commitment to medical education and examining after being elected by the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Dr Irani examines in basic sciences at home at abroad and also hosts two sets of Royal College of Physicians exams at the hospital trust each year, which are vital for doctors training to become a specialist registrar.
Dr Irani said: “I am so pleased to have been awarded this fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons, which is a real honour and even more so for a physician. And to have been elected to receive this award by members of the college is particularly kind.
“I am extremely proud, not simply for myself but on behalf of my whole team at Ashford and St Peter’s who support the work we do as an examining centre.”
Already a fellow of the Royal College of Medicine, Dr Irani is the only consultant at the hospital trust to have both fellowships from the colleges of physicians and surgeons.
