A politician has handed Boris Johnson a petition with over 1,200 signatures urging him bring Crossrail 2 to Worcester Park.

Sutton’s Greater London Assembly Member Conservative Steve O’Connell presented the petition to the Mayor of London on Wednesday, January 15.

He said: “Currently the plans show that Crossrail 2 will travel past Worcester Park but will not stop, which is a real waste.

“If this stop is included it will connect with the proposed Sutton Tram creating a vital transport link for South London and help strengthen this area as a transport hub.

“The petition has had overwhelming support, and the Mayor cannot ignore this many Londoners, especially when the proposal makes good sense for South London.”

Transport for London and Network Rail are looking at two routes - an underground service from Wimbledon to Alexandra Palace, and a regional option which would be a combined underground and overground railway operating from Alexandra Palace and Hertford East in Hertfordshire to various locations in south west London and Surrey.

It is hoped that, rather than ploughing straight through Worcester Park as part of the proposed Epsom route, the trains will actually stop there and allow residents to benefit from the improved links.

Totally agree with Simon Densley, Steve O'Connell and the 1,200 people who supported their timely petition. An area will always benefit from better transport links. Worcester Park will do well from improved connections to London.

Needs something as adding 2 more carriages to the existing Trains will only assisit on the growth of Train commuters for another few years and the insistance on building more houses in the south east is not helping the current situation.
