Home-grown bands and singer-songwriters are being invited to perform at a community cafe venue.

Native Tongue, in Derby Square, Epsom, has announced two new nights aimed at emerging artists from Epsom and beyond.

Singer-songwriters and the audience will sit together in a semicircle during a new biweekly session, called Raw, which harks back to the folk revival at coffee shops in the 60s.

Bands who want to get ahead can also sign up to perform headline slots at another regular night, called New, in a bid to break into the big time.

Tristan Maguire, head of bookings at Native Tongue, said: "Everything has to start somewhere and that 'somewhere' for a lot of people has been Native Tongue.

"From Rufus Hound to Jamie T, these artists all began at our (and other people's) open mic sessions. Helping people start their 'something' is what we do."

There is free entry for both nights. To perform email info@nativetongue.co.uk.
