FORMER Goldsmiths student Steve McQueen’s film 12 Years A Slave bagged the big one at the Golden Globes last night.

McQueen, who studied Fine Art at the New Cross university, directed the drama starring ex-Dulwich College pupil Chiwetel Ejiofor which won best move drama at the glitzy Beverley Hills ceremony.

Having seen off competition from Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena and Rush, it is now widely tipped for Oscars success.

The film is based on the true story of New Yorker Solomon Northup who was kidnapped and sold into slavery as an adult. But there was one blow for the film after McQueen lost out on the battle for best director to Alfonso Cuaron and his space adventure Gravity.
