A cyclist was taken to hospital after being involved in an accident with a van in Walton this morning.

Police were called to Ambleside Avenue and closed the road while paramedics attended to the female cyclist, believed to be in her 60s.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said two ambulances were sent to the scene about at 6.55am and treated the cyclist who suffered head injuries.

The female cyclist was then taken as a priority to St George's Hospital, Tooting.

Ambleside Avenue was closed in both directions at the junction with Cottimore Lane and Surrey Police posted on Twitter that the road had reopened shortly after 10.10am.
