Focus on...Greenwich Market
PERFECT for gifts or treating yourself, the historic Greenwich Market is held six days a week bang in the middle of a World Heritage Site by the Cutty Sark.
Locations don’t get much trendier than this, and it is obvious by the stalls too.
There’s lots of quirky vintage, handmade jewellery and paraphernalia among as many as 120 stalls and in the unlikely event there’s nothing that catches your eye then the market is also surrounded by plenty of independent and boutique shops.
While you won’t be able to pick up your groceries at Greenwich Market, there are plenty of beguiling takeaway options from all over the world.
TRADER OF THE MONTH
Richardson and Richardson
Mother and daughter team Wendy, 55, and Hannah Richardson, 30, decided to start selling their beautiful personalised, traditional wooden greetings cards and funky, off-the-wall Perspex jewellery at Greenwich Market last July and haven’t looked back.
The family business has grown organically and these days they get customers who keep coming back to the stall which they run on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Wendy, who left her job in retail to commit to the business, said: “My daughter is an architectural model maker and she uses a laser cutter as part of her job.
“These were all made from her off-cuts. We have always been an arty family so we have always made things. People used to ask us to make things for them and it has grown from there.”
Recently, the pair invested in their own laser cutter so they could create their own boutique pieces easier.
She said: “We can make to order and personalise things. People can order on a Wednesday and come and pick it up on a Friday.”
