More than 500 people are expected to attend a vigil to celebrate the life of Mark Duggan this afternoon.

The 29-year-old's family and friends will also be at the event outside Tottenham Police Station, in High Road, at 2pm.

Mr Duggan was shot dead by an armed police officer in Ferry Lane, Tottenham, on August 4, 2011, after the minicab he was travelling in was stopped as part of an operation to tackle gun crime.

Tensions in Tottenham have been high since a jury in the inquest into his death ruled that the killing was lawful, on Wednesday.

Concerns have been raised about trouble erupting at the vigil as it is being held at the same time and thousands of fans will be arriving to watch Tottenham Hotspur play Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane Stadium.

However, Mr Duggan's family have called on friends and supporters to keep the vigil peaceful.
