Schools have signed up to a scheme to grit their playground and keep it safe from ice.

More than 15 schools in Barnet have signed up to the Grit My Street Intiative, where they will receive a one tonne bag of grit, as well as wheelbarrows and snow shovels.

Tony Ramos, caretaker of St Vincent Roman Catholic School, which has signed up to the scheme, said: “I think it is fantastic. This will help to protect the children and that is the most important thing.”
