A Barnet man led a group of pupils who have been excluded from school on a trip to the Himalayas.
Jeremy Gane, of Crescent Road, took part in the ‘Highest Classroom on Earth’ scheme for children who have behavioural difficulties and learning issues.
The 12 boys aged 14 to 16 encountered freezing temperatures and waded through thigh-deep snow as they trekked to Mount Everest base camp.
Mr Gane, the project manager, said: “The highest classroom was a very eventful and successful expedition.
“Everyone worked so hard to look after each other. The students experienced far harder conditions than those expected and taught us all the admirable rewards and benefits of special needs education.
“Every student - not just the naturally fit ones - displayed gutsy and strong characteristics, good humour and the ability to work under tough conditions.
“It was a success, and has left me profoundly moved.”
