Singing is something which comes naturally to 22-year-old Alexa Starr, who wants to encourage others to follow their dreams of stardom.

The Southgate resident released her first album, Gravity, last year, which she said gave her the motivation to pursue her chosen career.

After graduating from the University of London with a 2:1 degree in philosophy, she is focusing on making music full-time.

She said: “Singing makes me feel free. It just feels very natural to me. It’s a way to express yourself creatively.”

The former Ashmole College student began singing in the school choir when she was six, and went on to have private lessons.

She writes her own songs - but is keen for her fans to focus on her music as opposed to the celebrity behind the tune.

She added: “I don’t want to be defined by what people think of me or where I’m from. I want people to like me for my music and nothing else.”

Her next gig will be on Friday, January 17 at Roadtrip & The Workshop in Shoreditch.
