Nearly 2,000 people nominated roads for repair in Richmond Council’s consultation.

Residents were invited to suggest areas in need of repair and more than 1,900 people applied for some of the £490,000 up for grabs in the roads and pavements fund.

The council said there was three times the number of nominations than last year.

There is £35,000 available in each of the borough’s village areas and submissions will be evaluated by the end of February to ensure money is spent to will benefit residents the most.

Councillor Geoffrey Samuel, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for finance, said the response was wonderful.

He said: “We know that the quality of our roads and pavements is the utmost importance to residents all around the borough.

“I’m delighted by this record-breaking figure and we will see to it that our roads and pavements are in the best condition possible.”

The works chosen to receive funding will be announced in March.
