If your goal for 2014 is to be more active and become fitter, Elmbridge Council is on hand to help make your new year’s resolution a success.
Whether you want to put on your walking boots and see more of the borough’s sights or dust off that old bicycle which is gathering dust in the shed, there is something to suit everyone.
The council run a number of schemes including the healthy walks and cycle rides programme, the Elmbridge Eagles Bike Club for eight to 16-year-olds and a new rollerskiing course might be just the ticket.
The borough also has a vast number of green spaces and recreation grounds, with free tennis courts, table tennis and an outdoor gym in Long Ditton.
The Xcel Leisure Centre and Hurst Pool will suit those who want to leave dry land and take to the water.
Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “Making profound changes to our lifestyle can seem daunting but there are some small and achievable steps we can take to improve how we look and feel and these, in turn, will make a big difference to our long-term health.
“Why don’t you check the health and sports initiatives available locally on our website? The New Year is the ideal time to form good habits and stick to them.”
