A main route into Cobham has been closed due to flooding, prompting an alert.
The A245 at High Street, River Hill and Mill Road have been closed after the River Mole began to overflow between Hogshill Lane and Stoke Road.
The Environment Agency has issued an amber flood alert, which means flooding is possible and residents should be aware, for the River Mole and its tributaries from Kinnersley Manor to South Hersham, including Stoke D’Abernon and Cobham.
The level of the river has continued to rise, particularly in the Leatherhead area, following the heavy rainfall on New Year’s Day and flooding is expected on low lying land.
A statement on the Environment Agency’s website said: “We will continue to monitor the situation very closely, and will issue flood warnings if property flooding is expected.
“The outlook for the next few days is for more rain, and with very wet ground conditions, further flooding is possible.”
