A bike club set up in the borough in late 2013 is seeking new members to help spread cycling.

The Elmbridge Eagles Bike Club, which launched in October, aims to introduce young people to different areas of cycling including mountain biking, road cycling and BMX.

After impressing youngsters and parents alike, the club will offer an extra 14 sessions to current and new members starting on Saturday, January 11.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, says: “The young people who have joined the Elmbridge Eagles Bike Club in October have had great fun practising their cycling skills with professionals.

“I am delighted the sessions are so popular and it is pleasure to make them available again to young budding champions and children who want to share some cycling fun with their friends at Brooklands Community Park.”

The club is open to young people aged eight to 16-years-old with participants split into two age-based groups to allow sessions to be tailored to their needs and levels.

Membership to Elmbridge Eagles is free, with the course costing £42 for 14 one-and-a-half-hour sessions and it also includes membership to British Cycling.

Children should provide their own bike and will also require a cycle helmet as sessions take place on tarmac.

Elmbridge Eagles sessions are held every Saturday at Brooklands Community Park, Weybridge, on the tarmac which is closed to traffic, with eight to 12-year-olds riding from 9am to 10.30am and 13 to 16-year-olds from 10.30am to 12pm.
