A school has collected a minibus full of food for a local charity.

Winchmore School in Laburnum Grove, Enfield, managed to fill a mini-bus with donations for the North Enfield Food Bank, a charity that gives food to the most needy in the borough.

Sixth form students organised the festive gesture by urging pupils and staff at the Winchmore Hill school to donate food to the fund.

Food and drink included tea, pasta, biscuits, cakes and cereals.

Head of sixth form Lisa Hughes said: “The Sixth Form Head Team met to discuss how they would like to raise money for charity.  We decided to support the North Enfield Food Bank due to it being Christmas time and desiring to help families in need in the local community who may be struggling, particularly at this time of year.

“The students felt this would have a more immediate impact and it would encourage other students to do something tangible and meaningful, also raising their awareness of the increasing need and use of food banks throughout the country.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to see the school pulling together and students arriving to deliver their items to our collection points in reception, the sixth form office and library some carrying one item others several.  Parents also visited school during the day to deliver items too.”
