A multi million pound regeneration project will see more than 100 new family homes built in Sutton.

Development plans for new homes in Wallington, Beddington and other areas in Sutton are still being drawn up and will be shared with local residents as part of an extensive consultation exercise during 2014. Sites that could be developed include former care home Ludlow Lodge, in Wallington, that has been approved for housing development.

Sheltered housing site Richmond Green in Beddington could also be redeveloped.

Subject to resident feedback and the outcome of various appraisal studies, new homes could be completed as soon as December 2015.

It is expected that the new homes will be a mixture of flats and houses ranging from one to four bedrooms, and will be made available to local people through low cost home ownership, market sale, affordable rent and social housing.

Earlier this month, the Mayor of London warned that London needs "tens if not hundreds of thousands" of new homes to deal with the ever growing numbers of residents in the capital.

Social research charity, The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, has also warned that Britain is heading for a property shortage of more than a million homes by 2022 unless the current rate of building is dramatically increased.
