Surrey Police's finance chief has been reinstated after winning an appeal against his sacking from the force last month.

Paul Bundy was dismissed from his role as head of finance following allegations of his failure to disclose a change in personal circumstances and mishandling of internal information. The allegations were found to be proven against Mr Bundy and he was sacked for gross misconduct subject to an appeal.

Surrey Police said at the time that the misconduct did not relate directly to Mr Bundy's financial responsibilities.

A Surrey Police spokesman said that on December 19, an external and independent appeal hearing was held to review the decision and the appeal panel agreed the allegations had been proven but found a final written warning was a more proportionate sanction.

Mr Bundy was re-instated to his role on Monday.
