An award-winning trombonist was on hand to herald the arrival of an £85,000 ultrasound scanner at Epsom Hospital donated by dedicated fundraisers.
The scanner was the latest piece of technology to arrive at the hospital, thanks to the work of busy volunteers of the Epsom Medical Equipment Fund (EMEF), and celebrated trombonist, broadcaster and journalist Sheila Tracy, who lives locally, presented the scanner to the radiology department.
The former Big Band Special presenter on Radio 2 said “This latest state of the art scanner will benefit so many people. It’s an exciting development.”
Bess Harding, EMEF's founder, added: "The scanner, which will enable the hospital to offer a full ultrasound service, has five probes which cover a range of specialities including pregnancy, neonatal, abdominal problems including cancer, also deep vein thrombosis, and strokes.
“This welcome addition to the radiology department will speed up the diagnosis for many patients and provide a better service."
