A church is holding a public meeting to decide what to do with its rolls of honour, currently stored in an archive in Woking.

St Barnabas, in Temple Road, Epsom, has organised an open meeting at the church next month to discuss the illustrated scrolls listing parishioners who died in the two World Wars.

In the run-up to the centenary of the start of World War I a local historian, relatives of a soldier named on a roll and members of the congregation have all called for them to be brought back from Surrey History Centre.

Your Local Guardian:

Reverend Sue Bull, speaking on behalf of the church, said she welcomed the debate and invited people to a discusssion on how best to remember the fallen.

In an email to Rev Bull, local historian Clive Gilbert said he was pleased to read that remembering war dead had always been important to the church.

Mr Gilbert said: "In view of this, it seems all the more strange to me that these tributes to the fallen should have been sent away to Woking, to be forgotten by the congregation."

Come along to the open meeting at St Barnabas, in Temple Road, Epsom, on Monday, January 13, at 8pm.

Below is a list of the fallen. Were they part of your family?
