Rugby league games allowed at the Hive says Harrow Borough Council

Harrow Borough Council says Rugby League matches can be played at Barnet FCs stadium the Hive.

The London Broncos Rugby League club will share the Camrose Avenue stadium with Barnet starting from next year.

MP for Harrow East Bob Blackman raised concerns there would be increased disruption from the site for people living nearby as a result of the deal.

A spokeswoman for Harrow council said: “The use of the Hive is not confined to football and the contractual arrangements with Football First Limited allow for hiring of the facilities.

“We will monitor the situation to ensure that community access continues and will act if there is any evidence of a breach to planning or licensing conditions.”

Bob gets it wrong again.

Minutes from Harrow council in 2008 show that they envisaged two football clubs sharing the site including their reserves and women's teams. By my figures that puts stadium use at twice per week.

Broncos only play 12-15 games per season and it is only their first team that have been given permission. Their games occur at weekends in spring and summer so floodlights will very rarely be used.

There are issues to be resolved at The Hive with regards to parking and lighting so it would be good if Bob could discuss solutions for those with the council and the Hive instead of constant ill informed attacks on both parties.

Odd situation re Tory council administration V Tory MP regarding The Hive!

Bob Blackman is concerned about the escalated use of the Hive but the use has not been objected by the Tory councillor who leads planning and who is not only a councillor in Bob’s constituency but also supports Bob’s political campaigns at the door steps!

What a game!

With the amount of shots that Barnet have been putting over the bar I thought Rugby League was already being played here.
