The borough’s highway contractor won an award in recognition of its pioneering approach to sustainable construction.

FM Conway won the resource management award at the 2013 ENDS Green Economy awards and was praised for the company-wide commitment to recycling materials from the UK’s roads.

The win capped a string of successes for the company, which also scooped a special award from the Mineral Products Association for its leading work on cycle safety.

The company was one of the first in the UK to fit its fleet of vehicles with equipment such as cameras, alarms and side guards to protect cyclists.

Michael Conway, CEO at FM Conway, said sustainability was at the heart of the company’s service.

He said: “We think carefully about how we can re-use materials from our projects, and have invested in our business to ensure we can work sustainably.

“It’s terrific to have been recognised for our work.”

The awards were held last month at One Moorgate Place and were run by leading environment journal the Ends Report.
