A group of squatters who were evicted from The Bohemia pub in North Finchley joined forces outside an MP’s office to sing Christmas carols – with a twist.

The 20-stong group of carollers gathered outside Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer’s constituency office belt out verses about anti-squatting laws earlier today.

They blame Mr Freer for supporting anti-squatting laws, claiming he was the “main architect” of Section 144 of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill.

To make their point about the effects the law is having on homeless people, they sang a carol in memory of homeless man, Daniel Gauntlett, who died at the age of 35 on a doorstep in February this year.

But as the group were in full song outside the office in Ballards Lane, Finchley,  the MP’s team called police to the scene.

Mr Freer said: “As I was busy in Parliament today I did not see or hear the protesters trespassing outside my office.

“My team told the protesters they were trespassing and the police quickly and efficiently provided assistance.”
