A new state-of-the-art CCTV network will be installed to help police track criminals.
The new CCTV cameras can automatically read number plates allowing police to follow the cars of suspects.
Barnet Councillor David Longstaff, said: “This is a step change in our CCTV service with a far higher quality of equipment than we have had before.”
The Council claim that, although the new network will cost a lot in the short term, over five years it will save them £747,000.
Barnet's CCTV services will now be run by the OCS group and the control room will be shared with Enfield Council.
