Bromley panto balloons reach Italy

This Is Local London: Bromley panto balloons reach Italy Bromley panto balloons reach Italy

BALLOONS released from Bromley on National Panto Day reached as far as Italy.

The cast of this year’s Churchill Theatre pantomime, Cinderella, released more than 200 balloons on December 7 with the pantomime production dates printed on them and a tag at the bottom.

Anyone lucky enough to receive a balloon could return the tag for a prize.

On Monday (December 16), three came back – one from France and two from Italy.

The Churchill’s general manager Sarah Guppy said: “It’s so exciting that our pantomime has gone worldwide and we are thrilled at how successful this year’s pantomime has been.”

Cinderella continues at The Churchill until January 5. Tickets cost £15 to £26.50 on 0844 8717620 or at atgtickets.com/bromley

Whilst I understand that all publicity is good publicity, how is this an actual good thing?
Is Bromley (or the Theatre) going to benefit directly from giving prizes to Italians? I doubt it!
Wouldn't those prizes be far more worthwhile going to a school in the borough, or one of the many drama/dance/theatre academies this side of London? That seems like sensible promotion to me.

Sorry to be a killjoy but hasn't anyone told the Bromley theatre that balloons are terrible to the environment? Wildlife ingest them , they are harmful to flying birds etc etc They really should be replaced with something which is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. The other hopeless contraption is the chinese lanterns which are combustible (ref: large warehouse fire a few weeks ago) and can be eaten by farm livestock in the fields and then perforate their stomach linings. Why don't human beings THINK of their actions - PLEASE!?
