Plans to cut funding to a housing charity that had been working in the borough for more than 30 years were branded as ‘madness’ in March.

Helen Hudson accused Harrow Borough Council of being short-sighted for not renewing its £76,000 annual contract with Home-Start.

The charity provides welfare for families and single parents with at least one child under five, and had helped 266 families in Harrow in the past two years.

The council said the charity would be able to tender to provide a service in the future and said it hoped to work with Home-Start in the future.

Later in March there was shock in Stanmore after the body of a man was found in the street in the morning rush hour.

Police were called to The Common after the body was discovered on Tuesday March 19.

Neighbours living near the scene said they were shocked at the discovery, in an area they described as the safest place to live.

During March it was announced by Mayor of London Boris Johnson that the 24-hour counter at Harrow Police station, in Kirkland House, and Pinner Police station would close.

The plans were branded as offensive by Cllr Navin Shah, who said the proposals for police contact points around the borough were no replacement for 24-hour counters.

The Mayor’s office of Police and Crime (MOPAC) revealed the plans as part of Mr Johnson’s aim to save £500 million by 2015.
